The Alhambra

We got in to the Alhambra on Wednesday 2nd March, after our false start the previous day.  It was well worth the effort, and we were blessed with a gorgeous sunny day which made the visit even more enjoyable.

The Alhambra was originally constructed as a fortress in AD 889 on the remains of Roman fortifications, then left largely untouched until renovated and rebuilt by the Moors in the mid 13th century when the various palaces began to be added.

Nasrid Palaces

The Nasrid Palaces, which is the area that is home to the Mexuar Palace, The Comares Palace and The Palace of the Lions, The architecture was absolutely fantastic and all the lovely courtyard gardens added to the beauty of this place.

Alcazaba

Alcazaba is one of the oldest parts of the Alhambra and is the military area of the complex, the picture above is of the Jardin de los Adarves (wall walk garden ) and as you can see has stunning views of the Sierra Nevada mountain range.

I took well over 100 photos during our visit and found it hard to select 4 that would give you the flavour of such a wonderful place.

If you haven’t been,  you should it’s truly amazing, we are definitely coming again.

I have heard a lot about the Alhambra but not really seen any pictures of it before. Definitely looks worth a visit, I think we need to book a trip to Granada! The palace and the scenic views look amazing.

So glad you’re having such a good time – your photos are really excellent! We’re back home in Roses now. We came back early because the weather here was so much better than it was in Alicante. I looked for you on Facebook, but there are so many Ian Smiths and I couldn’t find you!
